Like many other people in a marketing position, my job is to make our marketing stand out from the competition. You need that one thing that is instantly going to catch your customer’s eye. The funny thing is; I never thought that it would be as simple as a typo. Yes, you heard me! A misspelled word. Not just any misspelled word, the name of our product. Like anything else we send out, it was proofed time and time again. However, we just didn’t pay that close attention to the e-mail subject line. So, I sent out our monthly e-newsletter just like it’s any other normal day in the office. The next thing you know, I receive an e-mail from one of our customers asking me what a “hot pot” is? Well, the truth is, I have no clue because we sell “Hot Pods”.
Now here is the interesting part. One of the calls informing us that we had a typo actually turned into a sale. We just had to laugh for a second because we, like so many other companies, try very hard to get the most out of our marketing efforts. But to realize that something like a simple mistake caught the attention of customers enough to call and place an order. So even though at first it was embarrassing to realize such a simple mistake, it was a relief to me knowing it turned into something positive. So, I can actually say that we all learned something from this mistake!
