Field Engineering

Zones close. Static pressure rises. Learn here how to balance a barometric bypass damper.

On a recent episode of Field Engineering, host JD Brake talks with Jackson Systems Engineer, Phil Kimble, about the “Barometric Bypass Damper”.

In a constant volume HVAC system, you have a fixed static pressure. Air moves at a designed velocity, a designed CFM, and a designed static pressure rate. (Static pressure has everything to do with being able to push air through the ductwork). When you add a zone control system, you need to counter balance the static pressure by installing a bypass damper. Watch as Kimble talks about best practices, common installation mistakes, and how to properly balance the bypass damper.
